Wearing babies in summer
Do you know such sentences as: "Wearing in summer is much too hot!" or: "The baby sweats too much and overheats in the cloth!"?
We do too!
This well-intentioned advice can be quite unsettling, but luckily we know there's nothing to it.
You can continue to carry your baby in hot temperatures without worrying. You don't need a special baby wrap sling for that. However, if you are expecting a spring baby, it may be worth considering a few things when choosing a sling.
In this article we tell you what you should look out for in the summer and which baby carriers, carrying methods and materials are particularly suitable for the summer.
Which sling and which baby carrier for the summer?
The most important question in advance: baby wrap sling or carrier? In fact, it's impossible to make a blanket statement, because the answer is as individual as we ourselves are.
In general, however, it can be said that thin fabrics with a low basis weight are suitable for both the DIDYMOS baby wrap sling and the DIDYMOS carriers. The weight per unit area of baby sling fabrics is given in grams per square meter (g/m²). Anything less than 200 g/m² is thin and ideal for summer use.
If you decide to use a baby wrap sling, we recommend that you consider a shorty. A shorty is a short sling (up to size 4), so you wrap only a little fabric around you. In summer, the DidySling is also convincing, as it is very short at just under 200 cm and is tied in a single layer. In addition, it is so compact that it fits into any beach bag!
Baby carriers are basically airy, because they are open at the sides and thus a lot of air comes to the body and can circulate. Either you use our baby carriers for tying, the DidyTai or DidyKlick or our fullbuckle carrier DidySnap, according to your taste. All three baby carriers can be used from birth. If you like it even more airy, you should try the DidyGo - this one does not need a belly strap at all, is especially light and suitable for children from sitting age.

Which material?
First of all: a thin cotton cloth will do.
But if you want to be perfectly prepared to wear it in summer, you should also consider other materials.
Real summer heroes are namely cloths and carrying aids from and with:

Linen and hemp are especially convincing in summer due to their moisture and temperature regulation. Silk also has a cooling effect. Wool is a real summer hit thanks to its breathability together with the cooling silk.
Protecting babies from the sun in a baby carrier or baby wrap sling
The UV protection of DIDYMOS fabrics is generally very high, with brightly colored fabrics generally offering better protection than light-colored ones.
However, all parts of the body that protrude from the sling must be protected from the sun at all costs.
This means specifically:
- Sun hat with a wide brim and neck protection for the head.
- Long-sleeved bodysuit or light long-sleeved shirt (e.g. made of wool/silk)
- Long trousers or cuffs
- Light socks that can be taken off quickly in the shade
- Sunscreen for body parts that cannot be protected by clothing
All this is too complicated for you?
Then our BabyDos Sun is something for you. It offers a good UV protection. Our BabyDos Sun is made of especially light and fast drying Supplex. It is quickly pulled over the sling or the carrier and can be taken off again in the shade.
For light summer evenings or rainy days we recommend a light carrying jacket for summer.
Do's and don'ts in summer
The smaller the child, the less it should be exposed to direct sunlight. Therefore, stay in the shade as much as possible and avoid the midday sun! Offer your child enough water to drink (Attention: do not give additional water to fully breastfed children, but give it as needed).
Warning signs can be: rapid breathing, red or particularly pale skin, restlessness or apathy. Now a break in a cool place is urgently needed!
Is a sling or a baby carrier too warm in summer?
You can carry your child without worrying even on hot summer days.babies do not overheat when being carried. Quite the opposite: your body temperature equalizes and can never exceed it. By sweating, the baby carrier simultaneously regulates the child's body temperature and thus protects against overheating. Sweating while carrying is even natural and important!
