On Holiday with a Baby – At the Babywearing Family Hotel
A family hotel that offers babywearing consultations? And a selection of baby carriers? Does that exist?
Yes, it does now! In the Bavarian Forest, ULRICHSHOF Nature · Family · Design has made this idea a reality. With training from the DIDYMOS babywearing school, the hotel staff are now fully equipped to offer professional babywearing advice to families during their stay.
Babywearing at a Family Hotel – Consultation and Care for the Best Holidays
We were thrilled when ULRICHSHOF approached us, asking: "Can you train us as a hotel? We would like to offer families the option to carry their children in a good baby carrier during their stay and, at the same time, show them how to do so safely and securely. To best provide this service, we need quality baby carriers and want to educate our childcare staff on the best techniques."
Together, we considered what is needed when introducing baby carriers in a hotel setting—whether as rentals, as a tool in childcare, or to provide knowledgeable advice to parents.
What Do Families Need for Babywearing During a Family Holiday?
- Comfort: A good baby carrier allows parents to keep their baby close during hikes, walks, at the playground with older children, or even in the stables while still being able to move freely.
- Versatility: The carrier should fit both babies and toddlers and be suitable for longer outings as well as activities within the hotel.
- Practical and Easily Adjustable: Since many people with different body sizes will use any given carrier, it must be easy to adjust, quick to put on, and simple to use. Additionally, it needs to be washable to remain hygienically fresh for guests.
- Light and Compact: If parents already have a toddler who walks, they need a carrier that can be used when those little legs get tired, and easy to pack away when they’re ready to run.
- Relief: For childcare providers who shouldn’t always have to carry children and babies in their arms. With a carrier, the baby's need to be close can be met, while allowing caregivers to have their hands free to play with other children. This also spares the arms and backs of childcare providers—a crucial reason why more and more nurseries for children under three years old are using baby carriers, wraps, and ring slings. Parents can rest assured that their little ones are well cared for.
- Overall, it’s a helpful tool in family hotels and makes holidays easier for everyone involved.
Healthy Babywearing – Trained Babywearing Consultants at a Family Hotel
So, we packed our things: carrying dolls, DIDYMOS wraps, DIDY baby carriers, and, of course, the appropriate information packs to ensure that the future babywearing consultants at the hotel would be well-trained.
We received a warm and friendly welcome at ULRICHSHOF. The positive atmosphere and family-friendly environment of the hotel immediately resonated with us. After spending a night in a wonderful room with a forest view, we got started.
Healthy babywearing is important, so we covered the anatomy of infants, the "spread-squat" position, and the history of humans as a carrying species, while also considering the physiological and psychological benefits of babywearing.
Then came practice: learning different wrapping techniques with a baby wrap and using various tying and buckle carrier systems. After intensive work together and a second training session for any remaining questions - filled with learning, laughter, experimentation, and hands-on practice - ULRICHSHOF now has eight babywearing consultants who can assist parents with expert advice and carry their babies with confidence.
A large selection of baby carriers featuring the family hotel's logo are now available for parents to borrow. They are also widely used by the childcare staff.
We thank ULRICHSHOF for the wonderful experience, the hospitality, and the love for families with children of all ages, which can be felt in every corner of their hotel. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to train their staff.
