Wearing in the colder season
You can carry your child in winter without any worries. Babies do not get cold when being carried, because they benefit from the body heat of the person who is wearing them.
All wraps and baby carriers are suitable for the colder seasons. For a newborn baby in winter, it can be useful to pay attention to the choice of material for the wrap or baby carrier, e.g. fabrics made of warming materials such as wool (sheep or merino), cashmere, double or hollow weave cotton. Thicker fabrics have a warmer effect than thinner ones. All baby wraps with a surface weight of 220 g/m² or more are considered thick. If you want to carry your child in winter, it is very important to protect them against cold.
There are essentially two options: either you wear the baby over your jacket or under your jacket. If you decide to wear your child over your jacket, it is essential to cover him well thickly, as if he or she were in a buggy. A woollen overalls for whales is particularly suitable in this case. Think also about a cap and scarf, as well as shoes for your child. Caution: in this way, the child will no be sufficiently protected from your body heat!
We therefore recommend that you carry your child under your jacket. Carrying jackets are very suitable for this purpose. In this way you warm the child with your own body heat.
Check your child's neck temperature regularly: if it is clammy, he is sweating and you can remove a layer of clothing. If, on the contrary, he is cold, you should warm him up and check the temperature of his feet. They are usually the first to get cold when the child is cold. Especially at home, remember that the wrap or baby carrier replaces a layer of clothes to prevent the baby from overheating. Especially for small children, sometimes even a large jacket or coat is sufficient.
More comfortable and flexible, however, can be carry jackets with inserts. Carrying jackets have inserts that can be easily attached and detached with zips, so that they can be used without the baby or even during pregnancy. You can comfortably carry your baby in front of your chest or on your back.
Make sure the airways are clear! The baby's nose and mouth must always be free and must not be covered by a jacket, scarf or cloth. If you do not want to buy an additional jacket, there are also carrying inserts for existing jackets or use as well a wearing cover, our BayDos, made of warming wool.
